Ready for your trip? Got all the essentials and your perfect carry-on all picked out? Well get ready, because today we’re going to tell you the secret to turn your chaotic carry-on into a serene tote with everything you need right at hand.
The Secret: Pouches & Pockets!
Okay, so this may seem like an obvious one, but there is a right way to use your pouches and pockets, and spoiler alert, it doesn’t involve picking the cutest pouch and just cramming your things in.
Get the Right Pouches
When you’re looking for pouches, the ones you want are thin, have nice zippers, and don’t involve any weird shapes. A cute circular coin purse is all very cute, but totally useless when you’re trying to fit a few pouches into a long narrow bag opening.
Clear pouches are also nice if you’re not good at remember what you put where. You can even get a totally clear quart sized pouch and put your liquids in it. Then all you have to do is remove that pouch when you go through security!
Prioritize the Essentials
What are the things you will need handy? What can’t you live without?
Oftentimes, these are things like: your I.D. and your boarding pass, your phone and headphones, your wallet, and your lipstick or lipbalm. These are your essentials, and it’s better if they’re someplace you can easily access them.
It might mean that you want to keep these in pockets of your carryon bag to have easy access to them, or maybe you want to have a special pouch for them.
Either way, remember what’s important to you and prioritize them.
Organize Your Items by Type
Got eight hundred cords? Great! A technology pouch will help corral all those strings into neat, easy to contain bundles that you can easily use in the airport or mid-flight.
Wrap your cords up for bonus organization, and secure thinner cords with a twist-tie, and larger cords with a rubber band.
Get a pouch for your makeup, your pens, or whatever other items you have. Just sort your stuff by type and pouch them up accordingly.
This connects back to getting the right pouches, but remember to organize your items so that when you look down on them from the top of your bag you can see and access every pouch. If you stack your pouches on top of each other, you won’t be able to access the stuff on the bottom.
Long flat pouches that can stand on their sides are the best for organizing.
